Product Details

Designed to be portable, powerful, compact, adaptable and affordable! (See Pros and Cons below) No tools are needed for assembly - the sections lock together entirely by hand! The assembled reflector is almost 6 feet in diameter. Amazingly, this large parabolic grill unit stores very compactly in a space of only 22" x 18" x 4"! The entire grill package can be carried easily on an internal or external-frame backpack or adaptable/tactical backpack. Our special reinforced panel hinge system with adjustable frame/base  is designed for durability, quick setup and years of cost-effective service.
Construction:
Reflector:   A 95% reflective thin metal/reinforced HD chipboard backer panel system supported by an adjustable rigid frame mounted over/locked onto a reinforced doublewall base platform.
Grill:   A light gauge stainless steel grill with a thermal-break controlling handle (adjustable) - grill area is approximately 8 1/4" x 8 1/4".
Features:   A handle-controlled directional adjustment with pushbutton set  for main reflector, special heat-absorbing wrap to speed grilling or modify a cooking container's conduction/convection properties as needed (12" x 20" sheet provided), removable reflector core section to allow for optional user-provided grill support configurations for heavier cookware (e.g. adjustable cantilever -e.g. Graber Grill - spanning shelf or suspended cookware), optional anchorage stakes for lawn use.

The "BASE" of operation. The Series 2300 solar grill was brought into a popular campground (northeastern US) on an internal frame backpack. The entire grill in its original package was buckled to the backpack using the vertical exterior belt. The "quasi-military" styling of the base plate is shown under the canopy of the operating reflector (superstructure/adjustable frame support not in view). The grill took about 20 minutes to assemble, but an experienced user could do a rush assembly in about 15 minutes (no tools are needed for assembly - the sections lock together by hand!

The The pushbutton feature in the solar grill directional control handle sets the orientation. The grill central rod support serves as a directional guide - there is really no need for a special targeting sight!

Shown is an oven thermometer registering the ambient heat roughly two inches above the grill -meaning there's intense heat just below at the grill surface (as the smoke to the left suggests). This grill handled eight jumbo hotdogs while simultaneously toasting four hotdog buns. This cookout took place at 1:30 in the afternoon in late May of 2015, north of the 42nd parallel. Grilling closer to noon, later in the season and in states below the 42nd parallel will produce even higher wattage! Grilling at higher altitudes (due to reduced atmospheric interference) will result in higher temperatures as well.

This view shows a camping mess kit at work on the Series 2300 grill. Other solar grills on the market require that you use black cooking containers to absorb the concentrated solar heat. Our solar grill allows you to use an ordinary metallic-finish mess kit pan by simply placing our heat-absorbing conductive wrap under the pan. This very economical mess kit (priced at $7.97 at Walmart and available at other department stores) works nicely with the SOL BASE 2300 grill. It comes with a pan lid and another slightly smaller cooking container with lid and drinking cup.

Pros:

Heat power - approximately 2300 watts max. A wider reflector diameter captures more sunpower, and this reflector is in the upper range for heating capacity when compared with other parabolic grills on the market. Compared to certain parabolic solar grills, you get more than ten times the wattage per dollar spent with SOL BASE 2300 (solar ovens and small glass-tube type cookers are typically slower cookers compared to parabolic solar grills).
Portable and lightweight - Despite its large reflector area when operational, the reflector alone disassembles and fits within a 18" x 16" x 3" space. The rest of the solar grill assembly will fit within most larger backpacks. The entire unit can be carried on an external-frame backpack or a larger tactical pack. Unit weight is just over 9 lbs.
Compact storage - The entire solar grill stores within a 22" x 18" x 4" space -by far the most compact parabolic solar grill on the market in this power range! It's great for camping/RVs - consider the advantages of grilling in parklands where open flame may not be allowed!) Other high-powered parabolic grills on the market are bulkier in construction and are not designed to be efficiently stored away after use. They are likely either to be stored indoors in their assembled form, taking up valuable storage space, or left outdoors exposed to weathering effects and environmental pollutants. Our grill is designed to be stored compactly indoors where the grill hardware/reflective surface will be protected in a controlled environment.

Grill-At-Focus design - once pointed to the sun, the grill area by design is already centered for maximum heat. Other parabolic grill designs may require an additional vertical adjustment in the cookware support - thus requiring the balancing of two adjustments instead of requiring just one adjustment for the focusing of the sun's heating power.
Adaptable - allows for user-provided grill configurations (e.g. Graber Grill at www.grabergrills.com or similar, cantilever grill supports, spanning shelf grills or suspension supports for heavier cookware). With a repurposed user-provided grill platform, various grill support configurations can be improvised for heavy cookware in both the backwoods and backyard.
Clean and resourceful grilling - by using the heat-absorbing foil wrap (or standard foil wrap in some cases), spatter can be controlled for food items prone to spattering when heated, and with relatively little smoke. Compared to conventional grilling (the smoke having been shown to contain carcinogenic cooking byproducts), this iscleaner!
Affordable - much less expensive than other parabolic solar grills on the market in the higher power range. (prices for several smaller but heavier parabolic solar grills on the market can range between $200 and $500+). Costs for solar ovens will usually range lower, but cooking times for solar ovens and smaller devices typically range much higher than parabolic grills.
A small investment - Unlike a car which begins to lose value from the time it's driven off the dealership lot (and loses 15-20% of its value each year), our grill does not appreciably lose value with time if used as directed. Conventional grills are like cars as an investment - they lose value with time and eat up resources/money over time. The costs of gas refills/tanks, charcoal, lighter fluid - even the cost of driving to get these supplies - can add up. Conventional gas grills often require maintenance and replacement parts due to common problems with gas regulators, ignitors and burners, and the cost for one replacement burner alone can exceed the selling price of our entire grill package! By contrast, our grill can begin to pay for itself because of the comparative cost savings alone! Just as important, it's a small investment in the quality of our environment!

Cons:

Must be used only under ideal outdoor conditions: clear sky, windless or low wind conditions, dry and level ground, no precipitation; it is not meant to be left exposed to inclement weather. (Just the same, these are the conditions best suited for most outdoor activities!)
This isn't a heavyweight grill - it won't support a heavy pan or dish with the hardware that comes with the unit - most $200+ models on the market are of heavier construction to support such cookware. Without additional cookware support, the suggested loading limit of the SOL BASE 2300 grill can be considered equivalent to grilling 8 jumbo franks - roughly a 16 oz. load. (Just the same - this medium-duty BBQ grill cooks faster than the smaller parabolic solar grills. By the comparison above, you get nearly 10 times the wattage per dollar spent with our grill. Smaller portions can be heated faster in aluminum trays or mess-kit-type containers instead of heavy cookware. When it comes to camping, mess kits are often preferred just for their portability. Even if heavy cookware must be used, this solar grill is adaptable to allow for user-supplied grill supports of various configurations and types.)
Care must be taken due to bright light and intense heat- As with all parabolic grills, great care must be taken during use due to the bright light and intense heat involved - all safety precautions must be practiced under adult supervision. (Just the same, conventional gas/charcoal grilling typically involves higher temperatures with greater burn risk along with the ever-present risk of flare-ups and the potential for gas explosions.)
Reflector orientation is limited- orientation range is from vertical to approximately 45 degrees with horizon - some $200+ models will have a greater range of settings. (Just the same, this range still encompasses the best and most efficient sun angles.)
A parabolic grill cannot do all that a gas/charcoal grill does - wood smoke flavors such as mesquite cannot be achieved other than by way of a sauce application. Spatter and drippings can compromise the efficiency of the reflective surface, so greater care must be taken while cooking. (Just the same, the reflective surface may be cleaned with liquid dish detergent on a damp, non-abrasive cloth with gentle wiping. This solar grill also comes with a special heat-absorbing foil wrap that can be combined with standard foil wrap for cleaner, comparatively safer grilling - especially when considering the reduced risk of carcinogenic cooking byproducts typically associated with conventional gas and charcoal grilling.)
